Baltimore police say a 15-year-old boy was arrested Sunday after he allegedly struck his 1-year-old brother in the head inside a Northeast Baltimore home. The baby was taken to a nearby hospital with what police described as non-life-threatening injuries, and detectives say the case is still under active investigation.
Officers were called to the 900 block of Homestead around 11 a.m., according to FOX45. Once on scene, investigators learned the toddler had been hit in the head by a sibling and had already been taken to an area hospital for treatment. Police told FOX45 that the 15-year-old left the home after the assault but was tracked down and arrested following a search of the neighborhood.
Juvenile Cases Piling Up Across Baltimore This Spring
The arrest is the latest in a string of high-profile juvenile incidents in Baltimore this spring, a trend that has stirred debate over enforcement and how the courts handle young defendants. One recent case, a BB gun carjacking scare, saw authorities pursue adult charges against a 15-year-old, underscoring the complicated local fight over juvenile justice responses.
What Police Are Saying So Far
Police have not released the juvenile’s name or said whether formal charges have been filed, according to FOX45. Detectives continue to probe the circumstances of the assault as neighbors and family members work to process what happened inside the home.
