A $58 million inpatient rehabilitation hospital has officially replaced the old Concordville Inn in Glen Mills, as Encompass Health cut the ribbon Wednesday on a new 50-bed facility. The two-story hospital sits along Baltimore Pike near Route 322, taking over the longtime tavern and event center that once anchored the village. Company officials say the center will treat patients recovering from strokes, brain and spinal cord injuries, amputations and complex orthopedic conditions. Officials expect the hospital to begin admitting patients in early May.
Ribbon Cutting And What Comes Next
Health officials and community leaders gathered Wednesday for the ribbon-cutting, which 6ABC reported marked the completion of construction at the Concordville Inn site. The outlet noted the new hospital will begin welcoming patients in early May and will provide inpatient therapy and specialized clinical services. According to 6ABC, local and hospital leaders are now focused on final licensing and staffing steps ahead of opening.
Services And Who Is In Charge
According to Encompass Health, the 50-bed hospital will provide specialized inpatient rehabilitation for strokes, brain injuries, spinal cord injuries and complex orthopedic cases. Lauren Grieder has been named the hospital's first CEO. In a statement she said, “We eagerly anticipate opening this hospital to the Glen Mills community.” The company says the center will operate as part of its regional network and will offer coordinated discharge planning and outpatient follow-up.
Price Tag And Regional Build Out
The Philadelphia Business Journal reported the Concordville project carries a roughly $58 million price tag and is one of two rehabilitation hospitals Encompass is putting in the Philadelphia suburbs. A state environmental notice in the Pennsylvania Bulletin shows Encompass has filed plans for a second 50-bed facility at 2660 Audubon Road in Lower Providence Township, Montgomery County. Together, the two projects are part of the company's push to add inpatient rehabilitation capacity around the region.
Jobs And What It Means Locally
Encompass has posted hiring notices as it builds clinical and nonclinical teams for the Glen Mills site, according to the hospital's location information on its website. The hospital's National Provider Identifier was registered in 2025 and lists the primary location at 780 Baltimore Pike in Glen Mills, indicating key administrative steps are complete. Organizers and local officials say the center will bring specialist care closer to home for many patients and will add new local jobs once it is fully staffed.
The property's transformation has drawn plenty of local attention because the Concordville Inn, a longtime landmark, was sold and redeveloped in recent years, a turn of events chronicled in earlier reporting by the Philadelphia Business Journal. Supporters argue the hospital fills a gap in specialty rehab services for Delaware County, while preservation advocates lament the loss of a historic site. For now, township officials and Encompass are focused on final inspections, staffing and licensing so the hospital can start treating patients in May.
