Early Friday on Columbus' northeast side, a body was found along Morse Road near Westerville Road, setting off a death investigation that brought a noticeable police presence and shut down part of the corridor while officers worked the scene. Authorities have not released the victim’s identity or said how the person died.
According to WSYX, the body was discovered at about 6 a.m., and homicide detectives were seen investigating at the site. The station reports that police shared few details as the death investigation remains active.
City Already Planned Safety Work At The Intersection
The intersection of Morse Road and Westerville Road is one of the busier stretches on the city’s northeast side, and Columbus officials already had a multi-phase safety project in the works for that junction. A City of Columbus project fact sheet details plans for dual southbound left-turn lanes, a westbound right-turn lane and a reconstructed traffic signal, all aimed at improving sightlines and lane balance. The City of Columbus notes that construction was delayed by utility relocations and had been expected to run into late 2025.
Investigation Ongoing
Officials have not given a timeline for when more information might be released and have not announced any arrests. WSYX reports investigators stayed at the scene for hours as evidence was collected, while the Franklin County Coroner’s Office will determine the cause and manner of death. Anyone with information is urged to contact Columbus police as the inquiry continues.
