A New York City Department of Education employee was arrested Friday in the Bronx on charges of sexual abuse and forcible touching, authorities said, rattling a local high school community and putting the dean’s future with the DOE in serious doubt.
The suspect, identified by police as 44-year-old Raheem Logue, was taken into custody within the confines of the NYPD's 44th Precinct. The Department of Education has suspended him without pay while the case is under investigation. It was not immediately clear whether the alleged incident occurred at a school.
In a statement to News 12, DOE spokesperson Isla Gething called the accusations “serious and deeply disturbing” and confirmed that Logue has been suspended without pay. Gething said the department will pursue termination if the allegations are substantiated and that supports are being put in place for the affected school community.
The Bronx School for Law, Government and Justice lists Raheem Logue as one of its deans on the school's staff page. The school is located in the Concourse section of the Bronx, where staff and families were notified as investigators began their inquiries.
Police charged Logue with sexual abuse and forcible touching and say he was taken into custody at the 44th Precinct, according to News 12. The outlet reported that investigators had not immediately tied the allegations to a specific school setting.
Watchdog Data Shows How Common Allegations Are
The city’s Special Commissioner of Investigation recently filed its annual report, underscoring how frequently complaints and probes still surface across the DOE. According to the SCI's 2025 annual report, the office received 11,775 complaints in 2025, initiated 471 investigations, and handled 157 probes involving sexual or inappropriate conduct, substantiating 62 of those cases. The SCI report also says it referred dozens of substantiated matters to prosecutors and made personnel recommendations to the DOE.
What The Charges Mean
Under New York law, forcible touching (Penal Law §130.52) is a Class A misdemeanor that covers conduct such as squeezing, grabbing or pinching. Sexual abuse charges fall under Article 130 and carry penalties that vary by degree; the consequences depend on how prosecutors frame the offense and the facts alleged. See Justia and FindLaw for more detail.
The criminal case will be handled by Bronx prosecutors and proceed through the courts. An arrest is an allegation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty. The DOE says it will continue its internal review while investigators and prosecutors examine the matter and that supports for students and staff have been arranged at the school.
