A Bronx man is headed to state prison for a deadly midday robbery that turned a Crotona pharmacy into a crime scene. On Tuesday, a judge sentenced 27-year-old Isiah Garrett to 20 years to life for the 2022 killing of Los Angeles-based drill rapper Avanti Frowner, known as MoneyGang Vontae, after prosecutors said Garrett forced him into the Amazing Pharmacy and opened fire. Two other defendants still await trial, while a co-defendant has already pleaded to manslaughter and is due to be sentenced in May.

According to News 12 The Bronx, Garrett pleaded guilty to murder on March 3, 2026, and the judge handed down the 20-to-life sentence on Tuesday. The outlet reports that Bronx District Attorney Darcel D. Clark said Garrett "callously murdered" Frowner and put everyone in and around the pharmacy in harm’s way.

Violent robbery inside Crotona pharmacy

A press release from the Bronx District Attorney's Office says the June 9, 2022 confrontation started outside the Amazing Pharmacy at 595 East Tremont Avenue, where a group approached Frowner and a friend and robbed them of jewelry and cellphones. Prosecutors say Garrett then forced Frowner into the store at gunpoint, where he and others beat the rapper before Garrett fired roughly a dozen shots into his torso. Surveillance cameras captured the attack, and Frowner was rushed to Saint Barnabas Hospital, where he died. The release also states that Garrett and two other men fled to Georgia after the shooting and were arrested there on June 22, 2022.

Plea deal and pending trials

Co-defendant Nayshon White, 28, pleaded guilty to manslaughter on Tuesday and is expected to receive a sentence of 20 years to life on May 29, 2026, News 12 The Bronx reports. Prosecutors say trials for two other men charged in connection with the killing are still in the pipeline.

Prosecution and what comes next

The 2022 release from the Bronx District Attorney's Office notes that the case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Tony Castro of the Bronx Homicide Bureau, under the supervision of the bureau’s leadership, and credits detectives from the 48th Precinct and the Bronx Homicide Task Force with the investigation and arrests. The office also points out that the indictment that launched the case is an accusatory instrument and not proof of guilt. With Garrett sentenced and White’s punishment scheduled for May, the remaining defendants are expected to return to Bronx court as their trials are set on the calendar.
