Six alleged members of the Slattery gang have been indicted in the 2022 killing of 14-year-old Prince Shabazz, prosecutors say, a case that authorities describe as a misfire in a feud that targeted his older brother.
The indictment, handed up March 31, 2026, alleges that gunmen opened fire on Prince’s 16-year-old brother and that the younger teen was struck instead. He was rushed to the hospital and later died. One suspect remains at large, while the others were arraigned in late March, according to prosecutors.
DA Names Defendants, Details Charges
In a press release, the Bronx District Attorney's Office said District Attorney Darcel D. Clark has charged six alleged Slattery members in connection with the shooting. The defendants are identified as Yaselis Feliz, Diondre Martin, Juan Gomez, David Marte, Ethan Lopez and Christian Cruz.
They face counts that include second-degree murder, first-degree manslaughter, attempted murder, robbery, criminal possession of a weapon and conspiracy. Prosecutors say the alleged shooters fired nine rounds from two semi-automatic pistols, then fled in a vehicle that had been reported stolen five days earlier. The Bronx DA’s Homicide Bureau is prosecuting the case.
The Ambush And Earlier Reporting
According to contemporaneous coverage, the attack unfolded around 9:13 p.m. on Nov. 30, 2022, on Morris Avenue in the Fordham Heights neighborhood. Prince was struck in the chest and taken to St. Barnabas Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Surveillance cameras recorded suspects running from the scene, and police publicly appealed for help identifying the shooters, CBS New York reported at the time.
Prosecutors Say Shooters Bragged On Video
Local reporting says the group later recorded a cellphone video bragging about the shooting, referring to one defendant as a “top shooter.” Coverage also notes that co-defendant Yaselis Feliz allegedly sent Christian Cruz a screenshot of a Citizen alert about the killing, and that Cruz allegedly replied that they had hit the wrong person.
News 12 The Bronx adds that two of the defendants are currently detained on other matters and that one suspect is still being sought.
Legal Implications And Next Steps
Prosecutors describe the case as part of a slate of violent-felony allegations that grew out of retaliatory social media disputes between rival crews.
According to the Bronx District Attorney's Office, Feliz and Cruz were arraigned on March 27. Marte was arraigned on March 26 and is due back in court on April 1. Feliz is scheduled to return on April 20, while Cruz is due back on June 18. Lopez and Gomez are expected to be arraigned at a later date.
The DA’s office notes that an indictment is an accusatory instrument and not proof of a defendant’s guilt.
Neighborhood Context
Neighbors and community groups told reporters the killing rattled Fordham Heights, reinforcing fears about drill-rap beefs and illegal guns driving tit-for-tat shootings. Recent coverage and prior takedowns of alleged Slattery members have described a similar pattern of online escalation followed by prosecutions in the Bronx, according to local outlets including amNY.
