A 32-year-old moped rider died Wednesday after his bike collided with a Bx28 MTA bus in the Bedford Park section of the Bronx, turning a busy late afternoon commute into a fatal scene at Jerome Avenue and East Mosholu Parkway South.
The crash happened just before 5:15 p.m. Emergency responders rushed the man to St. Barnabas Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Photos and video from the scene showed debris scattered across the roadway and noticeable damage to the bus’s windshield.
According to News 12, the 32-year-old was riding westbound when he and the Bx28 bus collided. Video from the outlet shows a man lying unconscious in the street, as well as a food-delivery carrier standing on the sidewalk near the wreckage.
Where the collision occurred
The Bx28 runs along Jerome Avenue and Mosholu Parkway, connecting Fordham, Bedford Park and Co-op City and carrying both local residents and commuters through the area, according to MTA Bus Time. That route funnels buses, delivery workers and neighborhood traffic into the same busy corridor, a mix that can turn volatile when something goes wrong.
Emergency response and investigation
Police say the collision remains under investigation and have not yet released the rider’s name, according to News 12. The outlet’s footage shows the bus windshield partially shattered and debris spread across the pavement. Authorities have not announced any charges or identified a likely cause of the crash.
Street-safety context
Crash-tracking efforts and local reporting have repeatedly flagged deadly collisions involving mopeds and motorcycles in the Bronx and across the city in recent years. Crash Count, which compiles NYPD crash data, shows multiple fatal incidents involving two-wheelers in Bronx neighborhoods and highlights intersections where serious crashes keep recurring, according to Crash Count.
Police continue to investigate the Bedford Park collision. This story will be updated as agencies release additional information.
