A workplace dustup at a Greenburgh car wash escalated into a gun arrest this week, after police say a Mount Vernon man who had been ordered to stay away from the business came back and took off running, dropping a loaded handgun into the case file along the way.
The trouble started on Monday, April 20, at a car wash on Tarrytown Road, and officers were called back to the same address two days later when staff reported the man had returned. Police say the suspect was arraigned on felony charges and taken to the Westchester County Jail.
Greenburgh Police identified the man as 20-year-old Antonio Q. Ray of Mount Vernon. Officers were first dispatched on April 20 for a reported dispute at the car wash at 208 Tarrytown Road. When they were called back on Wednesday and saw Ray inside, he allegedly bolted on foot; after a short chase, officers caught up with him and recovered a loaded firearm during the arrest, according to Daily Voice.
Charges and what they carry
Ray was charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and second-degree burglary, both felonies, according to the department. The weapons charge is defined in New York law at Penal Law § 265.03, while the burglary count is set out in Penal Law § 140.25. Sentencing on those felonies depends on prior record and other factors; the state court system publishes general guides on how New York classifies and sentences felonies.
At the scene
The incident unfolded at a commercial car wash on Tarrytown Road, where public planning documents show the property at 208 Tarrytown Road has recently been the focus of redevelopment plans. Police told reporters they had previously directed Ray not to return to the business, but say he showed up again, triggering the second 911 call and the brief foot pursuit, as reported by AOL. Town planning records for the site can be accessed through the Town of Greenburgh's document center.
Next steps
After his arraignment, Ray was taken to the Westchester County Jail, where he remains in custody while prosecutors review the case, according to reporting.
