Just after midnight on Friday, a late-night trip home from Commerce Casino ended in an armed robbery outside a residence in Reseda near Archwood Street and Vanalden Avenue. Police say the victim was followed from the casino, confronted at gunpoint outside the home and robbed of a bag holding about $2,500 in cash. The suspects took off, and officers are still working to track them down.
According to ABC7 Los Angeles, the Los Angeles Police Department said three suspects tailed the victim from Commerce Casino, then approached once the person arrived home. At least one of the three was armed. ABC7 reports the holdup happened shortly after midnight Friday near Archwood Street and Vanalden Avenue. Police told the station the thieves escaped with a cash-filled bag and that an active search for the trio is underway.
Police search under way
Investigators say they are canvassing the neighborhood and reviewing any surveillance video they can find as they try to identify the suspects. That typically includes checking dash-cam recordings, doorbell cameras and nearby business systems to map out the suspects' movements before and after the crime. So far, authorities have not reported any arrests and are urging anyone with information to come forward to help name the three people involved.
Pattern: gamblers targeted after leaving casinos
The follow-and-rob approach is familiar to law enforcement. In 2025 federal prosecutors charged two South Gate men in a series of highway heists that allegedly targeted people leaving casinos, a case detailed in a report on highway robberies targeting casino gamblers. Officials have said schemes like these can involve watching potential victims on the gaming floor, then intercepting them after they walk out with cash.
Reseda's recent run of robberies
The Commerce Casino case lands in a community already rattled by other bold thefts. Last September, a nursing student in Reseda told ABC7 Los Angeles she believed someone followed her after she picked up cash at a bank, then robbed her at a car wash. She said the ordeal left her "with a lot of fear." Community groups and local officials say a run of such incidents has many residents rethinking how and when they carry cash.
How to help
Anyone with information about the Reseda robbery is asked to contact the Los Angeles Police Department. The LAPD's contact page lists a 24-hour anonymous tip line at 1-877-LAPD-24-7 (1-877-527-3247), along with online options for submitting video or other leads, according to the LAPD. Investigators emphasize that witnesses should share footage and tips with detectives rather than attempting to confront suspects themselves.
