Detroit just grabbed a prime spot on college basketball’s national map. Duke and Gonzaga are set to square off at Little Caesars Arena on Feb. 20, 2027, in a Prime Video broadcast special that drops two bluebloods into the Motor City spotlight. The showdown is part of a new multiyear partnership giving Prime Video exclusive rights to three neutral-site Duke nonconference games each season starting in 2026–27. Tip-off time and ticket-on-sale dates are still to come.
Prime Video deal details
Duke said in a press release that Prime Video will present three marquee neutral-site nonconference men's basketball games per season, beginning with a Nov. 25 matchup with UConn in Las Vegas and a Dec. 21 meeting with Michigan at Madison Square Garden, before the Feb. 20, 2027 Gonzaga game in Detroit, according to Duke Athletics. The release quotes Charlie Neiman, Prime Video's head of sports partnerships, saying the collaboration will present this premium college basketball showcase to fans around the world, while Duke athletic director Nina King called the initiative groundbreaking.
Gonzaga confirms Motor City date
Gonzaga followed with its own announcement confirming the Feb. 20 date and Little Caesars Arena as the venue, noting that the contest will be the sixth all-time meeting between the programs and highlighting their recent tight battles, according to Gonzaga Athletics. The Bulldogs' release adds that tip time and ticket information will be shared later.
Why Detroit?
The choice of Detroit is no accident. The city is set to host the 2027 NCAA Men's Final Four at Ford Field, and staging a high-profile nonconference matchup at Little Caesars Arena is seen as one more way to build momentum ahead of the tournament, as reported by the Detroit Free Press. Promoters and city officials have been working to position Detroit as a go-to stage for marquee college hoops in the lead-up to that Final Four spotlight.
Broadcast rights and fans
National coverage notes that this arrangement marks Prime Video's first multiyear college sports relationship and reflects a broader move of big-ticket games onto streaming platforms, which could complicate viewing for fans who do not subscribe to Prime, according to CBS Sports. CBS also reported that Duke reached an understanding with the ACC's primary media partner, ESPN, to gain the needed scheduling flexibility, agreeing to appear in select ESPN-owned neutral-site events in the 2027–28 and 2028–29 seasons as part of the deal.
Next steps for fans
Both Duke and Gonzaga say they will announce the exact tip-off time and ticket-on-sale dates later this year, and they are urging fans to monitor official team and venue channels for updates, according to Gonzaga Athletics. Little Caesars Arena will host the event as Detroit continues its ramp-up toward the 2027 Final Four at Ford Field.
