Downtown Greensboro is about to get a serious dose of Bavarian flavor. Three Rabbits Brewing, a new German-style brewery, is aiming to open this summer at 214 Commerce Place, with co-owner Chris Myers telling What Now Charlotte the team is targeting a June soft opening. The space comes in at roughly 3,400 square feet, with a 1,500 square foot taproom and additional room set aside for production.
What the taproom will pour
Myers told What Now Charlotte the buildout will total about 3,400 square feet, including a taproom of roughly 1,500 square feet. The brewery will lean into German style lagers while still brewing IPAs, stouts and sours for those who prefer hops or something darker. On the drinks side, the lineup is expected to include ciders, rotating guest taps, wine and nonalcoholic beers. Food trucks are set to play a big role, with bar snacks planned for those who just want something small with their pint. The owners said they plan to distribute some beer to other bars, but the taproom will stay the primary focus, with a formal grand opening penciled in for late summer.
Where it will sit
The visitor guide from Downtown Greensboro Inc. already lists Three Rabbits as "coming soon" at 214 Commerce Place, which plants the taproom right in the center of downtown. That same guide outlines the BORO social district program, which lets patrons carry beverages through designated outdoor areas during set hours. For a new taproom looking to catch passing foot traffic, that setup could be a very handy neighbor.
How it fits the local scene
The regional brewery finder from the North Carolina Craft Brewers Guild shows that Greensboro already has a tight cluster of local spots such as Joymongers, Little Brother and Oden, among others, that help turn downtown into a mini beer trail. Three Rabbits, with its focus on German style brews, adds more of a European angle to a market that leans heavily on IPAs and hazy ales. That extra variety could help stretch downtown foot traffic further into the evening and give residents and visitors one more option for tastings, events and casual meetups.
Owner’s background
Myers says the Three Rabbits name comes from a terracotta window in Paderborn Cathedral, a symbol his family grew attached to while spending a year there as his father completed a fellowship. "I want to share my passion for German style beer, but I have a passion for all beer," Myers told What Now Charlotte. He added that the team wants the taproom to serve as "a meeting place" for neighborhood visitors and workers, not just a production facility with tanks in the back.
Next steps
The Guilford Merchants Association member directory lists Three Rabbits at the Commerce Place address and shows a local phone number, confirming the business is already starting to appear in area listings. Residents can expect more updates as the buildout wraps up and the owners lock in their soft opening in June and their late summer grand opening plans.
