Donut Squad is back on the block in downtown Waukesha, once again serving the oversized, candy-and-cereal-covered doughnuts that first made it a cult favorite on Milwaukee’s East Side. The shop’s return comes with a brighter, spruced-up interior, but the vibe remains unfussy: seating is scarce, flavors are limited daily, and the early birds are the ones who score the best boxes.
The shop has reopened at 308 W. Broadway and is now operating seven days a week from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m., according to The Freeman. The paper notes that the space got new flooring and updated light fixtures during the refresh, and that seating is limited to two tall tables with two chairs each. On reopening, the shop is expected to feature around a dozen doughnut varieties, a mix of filled favorites and more over-the-top creations, also per The Freeman.
From East Side To Broadway
Donut Squad first made its name on Milwaukee’s East Side, then expanded west to Waukesha in 2019, according to Urban Milwaukee. The original Prospect Avenue shop still pulls steady morning traffic, and that loyal following helped convince the owners to bring the Broadway location back to life. Fans who have followed the brand know the drill by now, with a menu that balances classic rings and filled options alongside the kind of novelty pieces that blow up breakfast tables.
What's On The Case
In the display case, customers can expect about a dozen choices, ranging from Bavarian-crème-filled and cookies-and-cream doughnuts to candy-loaded options topped with crushed M&M’s and cookie crumble, according to The Freeman. The shop leans hard into the sugar rush, with Fruity Pebbles and Kit Kat also appearing on the topping roster. Visit Waukesha lists Donut Squad as one of downtown’s key breakfast stops, paired with Colectivo coffee service, and that playful menu is what has kept lines moving at the brand’s other locations.
Expect Busy Mornings
With only a few seats inside, most visitors should plan to grab their doughnuts and head back out the door. The original East Side location is known for selling out by mid-morning on weekends, according to Urban Milwaukee, so late sleepers risk missing out. Downtown Waukesha’s dining guides point to strong foot traffic and regular events that can bump up demand on weekend mornings, which means those who arrive early will have the best shot at their favorite flavors, per Downtown Waukesha.
For Broadway, Donut Squad’s return adds another independent storefront to the mix and one more reason to grab an early-morning pick-me-up. Locals can keep an eye on the shop’s listings and social channels for daily flavor offerings and any tweaks to operating hours as the revived location settles into its new routine.
