A heated argument over suspected cheating in an east Columbus apartment on Monday afternoon, April 13, ended with a 20-year-old woman in handcuffs and her live-in partner in the hospital with a stab wound to the chest.
Police say Breanna Hahn confronted her partner at The Retreat at Walnut Creek apartments on Refugee Road after she suspected he was cheating. According to court documents, he accused her of going through his phone, and the argument quickly spiraled out of control.
Investigators allege Hahn grabbed a knife during the confrontation and stabbed the man in the chest. She then drove him to a hospital, where he was treated, and officers took her into custody. Hahn was arrested on a felony assault charge and scheduled for a Franklin County court appearance the next morning.
Police Say Phone Dispute Sparked Knife Attack
Court documents outline a familiar modern flashpoint: a fight over alleged infidelity and a searched cellphone. What started as accusations about cheating and privacy escalated until, police allege, Hahn picked up a knife and plunged it into the victim’s chest. Those details are reported by WSYX / ABC 6.
What Felonious Assault Means Under Ohio Law
Under Ohio law, felonious assault covers knowingly causing serious physical harm to another person or causing or attempting to cause physical harm with a deadly weapon. It is generally treated as a second-degree felony.
State sentencing rules allow for indefinite prison terms, with minimums for second-degree felonies starting at two years and extending up to eight. The actual penalty depends on the facts of the case and any added specifications. For the statutory language and sentencing framework, see Ohio Revised Code §2903.11 and §2929.14.
Court Appearance And What Comes Next
Hahn was due in Franklin County court Tuesday morning on the felony assault charge, according to WSYX / ABC 6. Prosecutors will now review the file and decide whether to pursue additional counts or specifications as detectives finish their reports and medical providers finalize documentation on the victim’s injuries.
