Edinburgh is finally getting what many transatlantic travelers have been quietly wishing for: a nonstop Delta Air Lines flight to New York’s JFK that does not disappear when winter hits.
Delta will now run the Edinburgh–JFK route across the entire calendar year, extending a service that previously went on hiatus for part of the colder months. The carrier has added rotations in January and February so there is now a continuous New York option out of Scotland’s capital for business travelers, tourists, and anyone chasing a Broadway fix in the dead of winter.
Edinburgh Airport confirmed the upgrade while also celebrating Delta’s new Boston service, noting that the JFK link will “extend beyond the summer and into the winter for the first time” and become a true year-round connection. The move is being pitched as part of a broader North American expansion that includes new Boston and Atlanta flights, according to Edinburgh Airport.
What the new schedule looks like
To bridge the traditional winter gap, Delta has added three weekly rotations in January and February so the Edinburgh–JFK service no longer stops for the seasonal lull. According to Travel Weekly, those extra flights keep the route alive through the slow months, while flight-schedule aggregators show Delta operating frequent daily services through the busier spring and summer period.
FlightConnections confirms that for the 2026 season, multiple carriers including Delta, JetBlue and American are scheduled to offer direct Edinburgh–JFK options, giving travelers more choice on timings and fares.
How Edinburgh’s U.S. links stack up
Edinburgh’s transatlantic menu has been filling out quickly. United already runs year-round service to Newark, with United listing Edinburgh–Newark flights in every season. On top of that, American has announced a seasonal JFK link that will use the A321XLR from summer 2026, a plan outlined by Edinburgh Airport.
Competition on New York routes has also been heating up. JetBlue jumped in with daily seasonal service from New York to Edinburgh starting in 2024, adding a lower-fare challenger on the corridor, per Boston.com.
Why it matters for travelers and business
Airport officials are framing Delta’s year-round commitment as a boost for both Scotland’s economy and its holidaymakers. The nonstop winter link tightens business and tourism ties with the United States and plugs Edinburgh into a wider web of onward flights via Delta’s New York hub.
“Extending this service to year‑round is fantastic news for passengers,” said Stephanie Wear, the airport’s chief commercial officer, in comments reported by Travel Weekly.
Anyone eyeing those new winter departures should still double-check dates, times and fares with the airlines, since transatlantic schedules often get fine-tuned by season. Industry watchers, meanwhile, will be keeping an eye on whether Delta or its partners tweak frequencies or swap aircraft as demand builds on Edinburgh’s growing New York runway.
