Elk Grove police say a late-night burglary attempt on Fossil Way ended with five men in handcuffs and more than $80,000 in stolen property recovered, capping what investigators describe as a fast-moving operation across south Sacramento County.

Officers say they zeroed in on two vehicles after spotting items being moved between them, then traced those goods back to multiple theft reports. Detectives later searched a separate home, where they say they uncovered even more stolen property and started returning items to victims while the case unfolded.

According to ABC10, the suspects were identified as Andres Perez Naranjo, 25, Andres Rojas, 25, Edwar Hernandez Marin, 40, Kevin Soriano Hernandez, 20, and Nicolas Medina Leon, 32. Police say the traffic stops came after officers developed information tying the group to several theft reports in south Sacramento County. All five were booked into jail while prosecutors review the case.

How Police Say the Arrest Went Down

Investigators say the break in the case came when one suspect showed up on Fossil Way posing as a food-delivery driver and allegedly tried to force open a side door. That prompted a quick response from Elk Grove officers.

Detectives report that surveillance and follow-up interviews led them to two vehicles, where they say they watched items being shifted between occupants. From there, they linked the group to a separate burglary reported earlier that same day on Luttic Court, according to police.

Recovered Property, Charges and Jail Status

Detectives ultimately recovered more than $80,000 in stolen property, authorities said, and began returning items taken from the Luttic Court home to its residents, per ABC10.

The five men are being held at the Sacramento County Main Jail. They face multiple counts that include burglary, attempted burglary, possession of stolen property and conspiracy. Police say the investigation is still active as detectives chase new leads and try to identify additional victims who may not yet realize they were hit.

How to Reach Elk Grove Police

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Elk Grove Police Department’s Detective Bureau or share tips anonymously through local Crime Alert programs. The department lists non-emergency phone numbers and online reporting options on its contact page, according to the Elk Grove Police Department.

Police say community tips have helped them match recovered property to victims in previous cases. The five suspects remain presumed innocent unless and until they are formally charged and convicted in court. Prosecutors will review the reports and decide what charges, if any, to file and when to set arraignment dates.
