Federal marshals say a New Jersey woman wanted in a stabbing case did not get far enough to dodge them for good. After a months-long search, 36-year-old Dawn Burge was tracked to Lorain County, arrested in Elyria and booked into the Lorain County Jail, where officials say she will stay while New Jersey works out her return.

According to a U.S. Marshals statement reported by Cleveland 19, the New York-New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force learned Burge had left the state and landed in Lorain County. That squad then called in the Marshals’ Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force, which found Burge in Elyria and took her into custody. U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott said in the release that the task force “will not stand for violent fugitives fleeing from other states to our communities.”

Suspect Wanted In Edison Stabbing

The Morning Journal reports that Burge is wanted by the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office on an aggravated assault charge connected to a June 29, 2025, incident on Morgan Drive in Edison, where a man was stabbed. Local police in New Jersey investigated the domestic dispute and, after determining Burge was involved, secured a warrant for her arrest.

Arrest And Custody

The fugitive task force arrested Burge in Elyria and took her to the Lorain County Jail, where she is being held while extradition is arranged, according to Cleveland 19. Officials have not released further information about how the arrest unfolded or whether Burge will appear in an Ohio courtroom before being sent back to New Jersey.

Tips, Reward And Next Steps

The Marshals’ release, cited by the Morning Journal, notes that reward money is available for information and that tipsters can remain anonymous. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force at 1-866-4WANTED (1-866-492-6833).

Regional fugitive task forces regularly team up with local police across Lorain County to chase down suspects from other states, a partnership officials say helps keep violence from spreading and cases moving; see the Garden Street bust for a recent local example. For now, Burge remains in Lorain County custody while New Jersey finishes the extradition paperwork and prepares the next legal steps.
