A routine rideshare run along Baltimore Boulevard in Finksburg on Wednesday afternoon ended with the passenger in handcuffs and the driver holding a traffic citation, according to deputies. The rider, identified as 42-year-old Maurice James Harrison, was taken into custody after a K-9 alerted on the vehicle and deputies carried out a search. The driver was cited for failing to move over or make a lane change while approaching an active work zone and was not detained.
What deputies say they found
As reported by Daily Voice, deputies searched the 2019 Ford Fusion and say they found a knotted baggie wrapped in electrical tape that contained a blue and white powdery substance suspected to be fentanyl, concealed where Harrison had been sitting. Investigators also reported finding several knotted baggies on Harrison himself, including four with a white rock-like substance suspected to be cocaine and three with a blue powder suspected to be fentanyl. In total, deputies say they seized about 14 grams of suspected cocaine and more than 37 grams of suspected fentanyl.
According to the Carroll County Sheriff's Office, Harrison was charged with two counts of possession with intent to distribute and two counts of possession not cannabis, and he is being held pending a judicial hearing.
Baltimore Boulevard enforcement has produced other seizures
This stop is not a one-off. WBAL reported that deputies seized about 31.2 grams of suspected cocaine and 13.2 grams of suspected fentanyl after a mid-January traffic stop, and a separate January stop yielded roughly 33.7 grams of suspected fentanyl along with more suspected cocaine. A late-January Finksburg stop that turned up suspected cocaine and a .22 pistol has also been pointed to as another example of how the county's PACE traffic patrols on Baltimore Boulevard often uncover wider criminal activity.
Charges and next steps
According to the Carroll County Sheriff's Office, Harrison faces two counts of CDS possession with intent to distribute and two counts of CDS possession not cannabis. He remains held pending a judicial hearing while prosecutors review the evidence and prepare filings for Carroll County District Court. Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff's tip line at 410-386-2920 or submit a report through the agency's media page.
