An early morning shooting inside a Montgomery Township home left a 49-year-old Greencastle woman dead and her ex-husband critically injured on Friday, according to state police. Troopers were dispatched around 6:36 a.m. and arrived to find the woman suffering from multiple gunshot wounds; she was later pronounced dead. Investigators say the suspected shooter, her ex-husband, was also found at the scene with a gunshot wound and was flown to a hospital for treatment. Authorities say he is expected to face homicide-related charges once doctors clear him for release.
According to CBS 21, the victim was identified as 49-year-old Buffi Camille Smith of Greencastle, and the suspect as 51-year-old Larry S. Seville of Mercersburg. Troopers told the station they believe Seville forced his way into the home and shot Smith multiple times before he was found with what appeared to be a self-inflicted wound and taken for medical care. Seville is facing charges that include first-degree murder and burglary, and a warrant for his arrest is expected to be issued once he is medically cleared, according to the station.
Scene and investigation
Troopers from the Chambersburg barracks responded to the 6300 block of Montgomery Church Road, securing the scene while detectives worked through standard crime-scene procedures. Investigators collected evidence inside and outside the home and spoke with neighbors as they tried to pin down the sequence of events that led to the deadly shooting.
In outlining its role in the case, the Pennsylvania State Police confirmed that the agency is leading the investigation and coordinating with county authorities. Troopers are asking anyone who might have information or relevant video from the area to contact them as they continue to piece together what happened before and after the gunfire.
Charges and next steps
According to CBS 21, Seville faces first-degree murder and burglary charges, and a warrant will be issued once he is released from medical care. Prosecutors are expected to decide on formal charges after investigators complete their evidence-gathering and once booking is possible. Officials have not discussed a possible motive or any detailed history of the relationship between Smith and Seville, and the investigation remains active.
How to help
As of Friday evening, the Pennsylvania State Police were urging anyone with information about the shooting to contact the Chambersburg barracks. Tips, including doorbell or security camera footage from the area, could help strengthen the case as detectives continue their work. Authorities also asked the public to steer clear of the immediate area while the scene is fully processed and said more updates will be released as the investigation and charging decisions move forward.
