Nearly 95,000 Genesis SUVs and sedans in the U.S. are being called back to the shop after engineers found that a crossover fuel-pipe connection can loosen and leak gasoline into the engine compartment, creating a fire risk. Dealers will inspect the connection, tighten it to specification or replace the pipe if a leak is found, and all work will be done free of charge. Vehicle identification numbers for affected cars became searchable on April 11, 2026, and Genesis plans to start mailing owner notifications on June 8, 2026.
Hyundai Motor America told federal safety regulators the campaign covers 94,760 Genesis vehicles and is recorded as NHTSA recall 26V229 and manufacturer campaign 033G. According to the filing, retention fasteners on a crossover fuel pipe may have been tightened with insufficient torque during assembly, which can let the connection loosen over time and potentially leak fuel. The report also notes Hyundai has received 129 consumer reports alleging the problem, with no crashes, fires or injuries tied to the defect in the U.S., as per the NHTSA recall filing.
Which Models Are Affected
The recall targets four Genesis nameplates, the GV70, GV80, G80 and G90, across model years 2021 through 2026. Cars.com breaks down the numbers as roughly 57,229 GV80s, 26,105 GV70s, 7,195 G80s and 4,231 G90s, for a total population of about 94,760 vehicles, according to Cars.com.
What Owners Will Get
Genesis will instruct owners to bring affected vehicles to a dealer, where technicians will inspect the crossover fuel pipe and retighten the connection to specification. If a fuel leak is detected, the pipe will be replaced at no cost to the owner. VINs are already active in federal recall databases, and dealer and owner notifications are slated to begin June 8, 2026.
The recall paperwork also includes a consumer advisory that owners should park the vehicles outside and avoid indoor storage until the recall repair is completed, according to the NHTSA recall filing.
How To Check Your Car
If you own one of the affected Genesis models, you can enter your 17-digit VIN on the NHTSA recall lookup page or call Genesis customer service at 844-340-9741 to confirm whether your vehicle is covered and to schedule service. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed after June 8, 2026, and dealers will handle all inspections and repairs free of charge, according to Boston 25 News.
