Yesterday's stop for gas on Woodward just north of Grand Boulevard turned into a crime scene when a man was shot and carjacked outside a station, leaving him clinging to life as the suspects sped off in his vehicle.
The shooting happened around 7:35 p.m. Authorities say the victim, an adult male, was walking out of the station when a group of unknown suspects confronted him, took his car, and fired a shot that hit him. Medics rushed him to a nearby hospital, where he was listed in critical condition, according to The Metro Detroit News. The suspects took off in his vehicle and remain on the run while detectives dig into what happened and who is behind it.
Violent Carjackings Around Detroit Gas Stations
This is not the first time a gas station confrontation in Detroit has turned violent this year. Back in February, a suspect was charged after a deadly carjacking at a Sunoco station on the city’s west side. Prosecutors hit that case with felony murder charges, a move that put a fresh spotlight on crimes near pumps and convenience stores and how quickly a tense moment can explode into lethal violence. Investigation Underway
Detroit Police are treating the latest incident as an armed carjacking that escalated into a shooting. The victim was taken from the scene to a local hospital and remains in critical condition. The suspects, who left in the stolen vehicle, had not been identified as of the latest update, and detectives continue working to track them down. The Metro Detroit News reported the initial details of the case.
Investigators are asking anyone with information or video from the area to contact Detroit police. This story will be updated as authorities release more details.
