An after-school lockdown at Canyon Springs High School in North Las Vegas ended with two arrests and two firearms recovered on and near campus Tuesday afternoon, according to officials. One weapon was found on the school's athletic field, and officers picked up a second gun off campus while chasing a group first spotted in the parking lot. Students who were on campus for activities were kept inside until police declared the area safe.

Administrator Spots Suspicious Group in the Parking Lot

In a letter to families, school leaders said an administrator noticed several people in the parking lot who were not Canyon Springs students and called Clark County School District police. When officers approached, the group ran and was chased into a nearby neighborhood, as reported by KSNV. The letter also reminded families that students should report anything they see as a potential threat through SafeVoice or directly to a school administrator. District officials said students on campus for activities stayed indoors until officers cleared the area.

Two Guns Recovered, One Suspect Tied to Mojave High

Local coverage reports that officers recovered two guns, a handgun and what was described as an AR-style rifle, with one located on the athletic field and the other in a nearby neighborhood, according to KTNV. KTNV also reported that one person taken into custody is a student at Mojave High School. Police said both people arrested are not affiliated with Canyon Springs. Names and potential charges had not been released by Tuesday night.

Reporting Tools and a Safety Reminder

The school letter urged families to keep talking with students about reporting threats through SafeVoice and included the hotline and website, as noted by KSNV. SafeVoice can be reached at 1-833-216-SAFE (7233) or at SafeVoiceNV.org, and families can call CCSDPD dispatch at 702-799-5411 for immediate concerns. District and school leaders also thanked staff for staying alert and following safety procedures while the incident was investigated.

Investigation Remains Ongoing

KTNV reported that authorities are continuing to investigate and plan to release additional information as it becomes available. Parents with information or concerns have been urged to contact school administrators or CCSDPD dispatch so investigators can follow up.
