An elderly shopper is in the neuro-intensive care unit at UPMC Presbyterian after what authorities describe as a brutal confrontation outside the Giant Eagle Express in Harmar Township on April 2. Investigators say a local man is now facing charges in connection with the attack, which left the victim critically injured.
Security video shows the attack
Store surveillance video captured the encounter, which police say started after the suspect approached the man following a complaint from the man’s daughter. According to investigators, the footage shows the suspect throwing multiple punches, knocking the victim to the ground, and then repeatedly stomping on his head. The video appears to show the man lying unconscious before first responders arrived.
The victim was rushed to UPMC Presbyterian's neuro-intensive care unit, where he remains in the ICU. Harmar officials told reporters he is responsive but is likely to face long-term effects from his injuries, as reported by WTAE.

The confrontation unfolded in the parking lot of the Giant Eagle Express on Freeport Road. The store is listed at 2611 Freeport Road in Harmar/Harmarville, according to Mapcarta.
The injured man was transported to UPMC Presbyterian in Oakland, which operates a dedicated neuro-intensive care unit for patients with serious brain and spinal injuries, according to UPMC.
