The Heinz History Center is suiting up for the 2026 NFL Draft, rolling out special pop-up exhibits and a Draft Week Fan Zone that will turn its Franco Harris Sports Museum and Great Hall into a football hot spot from April 17 to 27. The fan zone itself will run from April 23 to 25, 2026, with interactive games, scavenger hunts, and guided tours aimed at both local families and out-of-town fans.
Pro Football Hall of Fame Pop-Up
In partnership with the Pro Football Hall of Fame, the History Center plans to display game-worn jerseys and objects from legends such as George Blanda, Joe Namath, Johnny Unitas, Joe Montana, Jim Kelly, and Dan Marino in the museum's first-floor Great Hall. That pop-up is scheduled for April 17 to 27 and will be joined by a set of 27 original NFL Draft cards tied to the Steelers' first-round selections, all on loan from the Hall of Fame, according to Heinz History Center. Curators say the lineup is meant to highlight how Western Pennsylvania helped shape the pro game.
Draft Week Fan Zone
The Draft Week Fan Zone at the History Center will offer tailgate-style challenges, game-day eats, and sports-themed scavenger hunts from April 23 to 25, according to TribLIVE. The schedule syncs with the NFL's official Draft dates, April 23 to 25, and the league has designated Pittsburgh's North Shore and downtown as the fan-festival footprint, per NFL.com.
Kids, Tours and Souvenirs
The History Center notes that, through the Kamin "Free for Kids" initiative, visitors aged 17 and under receive free general admission, and the Franco Harris Sports Museum is included with regular tickets. The museum also says its shop will stock official 2026 NFL Draft merchandise and hometown souvenirs featuring Heinz and Mister Rogers during draft week, according to Heinz History Center. The museum sits in the Strip District at 1212 Smallman Street and is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Why It Matters
Putting Hall of Fame artifacts and draft memorabilia in a downtown museum gives fans a quieter place to dig into the city's football story while the bigger outdoor fan festival plays out on the North Shore. Local tourism officials have been pitching Pittsburgh as a national showcase for the draft and its cultural offerings, and the History Center's pop-ups are one of several downtown stops for visitors, according to VisitPittsburgh.
