On a holiday meant for fireworks and family, a San Antonio chef never made it home. Christopher Michael Montgomery, 40, was struck and killed while crossing Eisenhauer Road on the Northeast Side just after midnight on July 4, 2025. Witnesses told police the vehicle that hit him slowed near Montgomery, then took off, leaving him in the roadway as it sped away. EMS pronounced him dead at the scene, and months later, his partner and family are still pressing investigators for answers and for any images or video that might finally point to the driver.
As reported by KSAT, officers were first called out around 12:35 a.m. for an "assist the public" call in the 5900 block of Eisenhauer Road, where they found Montgomery lying in the street. A preliminary report notes he suffered blunt-force trauma to the back of his head. A witness described a black vehicle that appeared to slow down near him before taking off. According to the Crime Stoppers release, a reward of up to $5,000 is on the table for information that leads to an arrest.
Montgomery’s partner, Nicole Corona, told KENS5 that she has urged police to release at least a still image or short clip from what she says investigators have described as related surveillance footage. According to that reporting, Corona said she was told video exists but has not been made public, and she believes sharing any clear images could be exactly what jogs someone’s memory and helps identify the vehicle involved.
Family members and Montgomery’s obituary say he had recently started working as a chef at the Tower of the Americas and that his son was visiting from Houston at the time of the crash. His obituary on Dignity Memorial lists his survivors and gives details of memorial services held in July.
How to help
Investigators are asking anyone with dash-cam, doorbell, or business surveillance in the area to take a second look at footage from around midnight that night and report anything that seems out of place. As reported by KSAT, tips can be called in to Crime Stoppers at 210-224-STOP (7867), texted by sending "Tip 127 plus your tip" to CRIMES (274637), or submitted through the P3 Tips app. Tipsters can remain anonymous, and a reward of up to $5,000 is available.
Investigation status
The San Antonio Police Department’s public information office says the case is still pending further investigation, with detectives continuing to follow up on leads. As detailed by KENS5, officers have canvassed the neighborhood and asked residents and businesses to review their cameras for anything from the night of the crash that might help them track down the driver.
Why this matters
Unsolved, deadly hit-and-runs have become a recurring concern in San Antonio, leading to community calls for better lighting, safer crossings, and quicker public release of evidence that could spark new leads. Local coverage of similar collisions has underscored how often clear surveillance images and timely tips make the difference between a case going cold and an eventual arrest. Community cooperation remains central to solving cases like Montgomery’s, as coverage of recent hit-and-run investigations and other reporting around the city has shown.
