A late-night dispute on Sherman Avenue in Concourse Village ended in gunfire when a 17-year-old boy was shot just around midnight, according to police. The teen was hit in the left hand and right thigh, and officers say the case remains open as they work to piece together what sparked the violence.
Police told News 12 the shooting followed some kind of dispute before bullets flew, leaving the teen with injuries to his hand and leg. No arrests had been made at the time of the report, and detectives were still actively probing the incident.
Where This Fits In The Borough's Crime Picture
The shooting comes as city officials keep pointing to a bigger-picture decline in gun violence, even while the Bronx continues to see unsettling flare-ups. The NYPD reported a 9.4% drop in major crime in the Bronx during the first quarter of 2026 and an all-time low for shooting incidents citywide in that same stretch, according to NYPD data.
Those numbers, though, have been tempered by a burst of gunfire earlier in the year. Local coverage in February documented a surge in shootings across the borough that prompted extra NYPD resources and kept residents and officials on edge, as reported by amNewYork.
Recent Incidents In Concourse Village
Concourse Village in particular has been rattled by several recent shootings. In February, the neighborhood was the scene of a deadly platform shooting at the 170th Street B/D subway station that triggered a multi-block police response. News 12 covered that killing, which underscored worries about after-dark violence in the area.
In the latest case on Sherman Avenue, detectives say the investigation is active, with no arrests announced so far and no suspect description released. Authorities have not yet said what the dispute was about. This story will be updated as more details become available from police.
