Milwaukee hands the streets over to runners this weekend, April 11–12, 2026, as the Journal Sentinel Milwaukee Marathon weekend returns with a sold-out marathon and half marathon on Saturday and a still-available 5K on Sunday. The shorter race is open for walkers and casual runners who want in on the action without logging 13.1 or 26.2 miles.
Both the marathon and half fire off at 7 a.m. on Saturday, with the 5K set for 8:30 a.m. on Sunday, according to Milwaukee Marathon. The event’s registration page lists the marathon and half marathon categories as sold out, per the official registration portal.
Course And Where It Gets Hilly
The route runs from the lakefront out to Bay View and finishes at Humboldt Park, with organizers largely sticking to the same footprint runners saw last year. As reported by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, the course includes a climb on Lincoln Memorial Drive at Water Tower Road and a small rise along the Oak Leaf Trail, features that can throw off pacing for anyone chasing a Boston qualifying time.
That report also estimates roughly 1,450 marathoners, about 3,500 half marathon entrants and roughly 750 5K participants, and notes that Kinnickinnic Avenue businesses in Bay View make for prime spectator viewing as runners stream through.
Boston Qualifying And Time Cutoffs
The course is nationally certified, which preserves its status as a Boston qualifying route, per the official USATF certification. The Boston Athletic Association lists the 2026 Boston Marathon for April 20, 2026 and notes the qualifying window for the 2027 race opened on Sept. 13, 2025.
Race cutoffs tied to the city closure plan impose a five hour marathon limit, and the race’s course cutoffs document shows organizers will use a SAG vehicle to move runners who fall behind the timeline.
Runner And Spectator Logistics
Packet pickup is Friday, April 10, from noon to 6 p.m. at the Baird Center, with entry via the north entrance, and organizers note there is no race day packet pickup, per Milwaukee Marathon.
Shuttles will run from Humboldt Park back to the start after the race, and gear check will be located at the start and transported to the finish. Parking is available around downtown, although it is not managed by race staff, so runners are urged to plan ahead or book in advance.
After finishing, participants can head straight into the post-race festival at Humboldt Park, which will feature music and complimentary pours from local craft breweries for a little liquid celebration after all those miles.
