The FBI is appealing to drivers and travelers for help finding Alejandro Jacomino Gonzalez, a trucker who vanished after pulling into the southbound I‑95 rest area in Grant‑Valkaria while hauling a load of vehicles. His tractor‑trailer later turned up in Port Wentworth, Georgia, but Gonzalez and several of the cars he was transporting are still missing. Investigators say the strange chain of events looks a lot like a car‑hauler hijacking, and they are urgently seeking eyewitness photos and video from the morning of April 17.
According to the FBI’s Tampa Field Office, Gonzalez picked up the vehicle load at the Port of Brunswick on April 16, then pulled into the Brevard County rest area around 1:21 a.m. the next day. Agents say he parked to rest for several hours, but once the truck started rolling again later that morning, Gonzalez stopped responding and has not been heard from since.
Truck, GPS Data And Where It Turned Up
GPS data from the car hauler shows the rig left the rest area at 7:49 a.m., briefly headed in the direction of Jacksonville, and was then reported missing. The trailer was ultimately recovered in Port Wentworth, Georgia. Fox 35 Orlando reports that several of the vehicles that had been on the carrier were not with the truck when it was found.
FBI Requests Photos And Video From The Rest Area
Agents are zeroing in on the southbound rest area near the ramp to I‑95 South, asking anyone who was there between 1 a.m. and 8 a.m. on April 17 to come forward, especially if they have photos or video. People can upload digital evidence through the FBI tip portal at tips.fbi.gov or call the toll-free line, 1‑800‑CALL‑FBI. The FBI says three vehicles from the hauler have since been located in Florida, although others are still unaccounted for.
Why Footage Could Make A Difference
Video from rest areas and truck stops can quietly solve cases like this, giving investigators timestamps, license plates, and glimpses of who was coming and going around a rig. Those details can help reconstruct a driver’s last known movements and show whether someone else climbed behind the wheel. Industry analysts say thieves have been upping their game. According to Verisk CargoNet, estimated cargo theft losses jumped sharply in 2025 as criminal groups shifted toward higher-value, more coordinated operations.
How You Can Help
If you were at the Grant‑Valkaria rest area during those early morning hours, the FBI wants you to check any dashcam footage, phone videos or photos from that stop and save the originals before making copies. As reported by the FBI’s Tampa Field Office, anyone with information or relevant video should call 1‑800‑CALL‑FBI or submit tips through the FBI portal.
