What police say
According to NBC10 Philadelphia, the shooting unfolded around 8 p.m. on April 3 near the intersection of Fox Street and Roberts Avenue. Witnesses told investigators two people got out of a grey-colored Jeep and opened fire on a black Kia SUV. The Kia’s driver, identified as a 23-year-old man, was shot in the face and taken to the hospital in critical condition, police said. A second man suffered a gunshot wound to the arm.
Neighborhood context
Nicetown has faced repeated episodes of gun violence in recent years. A particularly violent weekend in July 2025 included a quadruple shooting that left a child grazed and two men dead, underscoring long-running safety concerns, according to The Philadelphia Inquirer. Local leaders and residents have called for more resources to prevent shootings and support affected families. Hoodline’s coverage of a pre-dawn inferno that gutted Nicetown rowhomes highlighted the disruption neighbors are already navigating and the strain on local services.
At the scene
Officers reported finding a gun inside the Kia but said they were not yet certain whether that weapon had been used in the shooting, according to NBC10 Philadelphia. The station’s SkyForce10 aerial footage showed a black SUV partially in a grassy area and a black Jeep stopped in the roadway. A SEPTA spokesperson told the outlet that a Route 82 bus near the scene was not struck by gunfire and was not otherwise involved. Detectives are still working to determine what sparked the argument and exactly how the gunfire unfolded.
