Just before midnight Sunday, two intruders forced their way into a Panorama City home while a family, including two children, was inside. The break-in happened around 11:30 p.m. on the 9500 block of Cedros Avenue, where residents were reportedly yelled at but not physically hurt. The suspects took off before officers arrived, getting away with an unknown amount of jewelry, several purses, and a cellphone.
Los Angeles police have launched an active search for two male suspects and have enlisted a private security company that uses artificial intelligence to comb through camera and license-plate footage for leads, according to KTLA. The outlet reports that ASC Security has previously supplied investigators with surveillance clips and license-plate data that helped crack other cases. As of Monday morning, authorities had not released detailed suspect descriptions or any vehicle information.
Valleywide Break-ins Spur Extra Patrols
Officials say the Panorama City incident appears to be part of a broader wave of home break-ins across the San Fernando Valley, prompting a beefed-up law enforcement response. According to a city press release, Mayor Karen Bass has ordered the LAPD to roll out extra patrols, add detectives and specialized units, bring in mobile license-plate readers and air support, and hold weekly meetings to monitor burglary trends, Mayor Karen Bass' office says. The Los Angeles Times has reported multiple recent home burglaries in the Valley as detectives work to determine whether any of the cases are linked.
How Investigators Are Tracking Leads
Detectives are now poring over doorbell footage and other surveillance video, using license-plate data to map possible suspect movements while coordinating with specialized LAPD divisions, according to local coverage. CBS Los Angeles reports that the department has stepped up visible patrols and is leaning on mobile license-plate readers and air support to both deter and track suspected burglary crews. Investigators are also urging neighbors to review any home security or doorbell camera footage from Sunday night and to reach out to police with potential leads.
The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information or video related to the break-in is asked to contact the LAPD Mission Station or submit an anonymous tip through Crime Stoppers as detectives continue to chase down leads.
