If it feels like fire stations are popping up all over Pasco County, that is because they are. Pasco County Fire Rescue is in the middle of a construction push, with county officials planning six new stations in under two years to keep response times in check as development surges. Station 19, a two-story replacement for a flood-damaged facility, is nearing completion and expected to open this summer. The new stations are being designed with elevated footprints, dedicated decontamination areas, and individual showers to protect crews and keep living spaces cleaner. Local leaders say the upgrades are aimed at cutting travel times and boosting lifesaving capacity in some of Pasco’s fastest-growing neighborhoods.
As reported by Spectrum Bay News 9, Fire Chief Ryan Guynn said the county has issued roughly 25,000 residential permits and about 4,000 commercial permits since 2022, creating a very practical need for more stations. Guynn said the department opened four stations last year, has three more under construction that are expected to come online this year, and is in the process of selecting an architect to design five additional stations. He described Station 19 as a replacement built on higher ground after flooding damaged the old building and noted that the new layout includes a “warm zone” for on-site decontamination.
Designs Focus On Crew Safety And Flood Resilience
In a post on Pasco County Fire Rescue’s Facebook page, the department thanked Calvin Lewis TV and Spectrum Bay News 9 for spotlighting the agency’s rapid growth and said the new stations will feature modern layouts and enhanced firefighter safety features. The post notes that the agency is “building six new fire stations in under two years” to keep up with the county’s expansion and strengthen coverage.
Where Pasco Is Adding Coverage
The new projects are spread across key growth corridors from Land O’ Lakes and Wesley Chapel to New Port Richey, replacing aging facilities and closing lingering coverage gaps. According to the Tampa Bay Times, Station 1 at U.S. 41 and Asbel Road in Land O’ Lakes is tentatively scheduled to open this summer, and several stations that have come online since March 2025 have already widened the department’s reach. Some of the sites are full rebuilds, while others are brand-new two-story stations designed to give crews more room to operate and grow.
Timeline And What Comes Next
Chief Guynn told Spectrum Bay News 9 that three stations are currently under construction and should open this year, and that Station 19 is running ahead of schedule. County leaders say the broader program, which mixes rebuilds with brand-new facilities, is expected to roll out over the next 18 to 24 months as permits are approved and funding lines up. Officials also said elevated construction and carefully planned decontamination workflows are a priority so stations can stay operational during storm season and help limit long-term health risks for firefighters.
Officials say the expansion is expected to reduce response times and improve firefighter health, although construction schedules and project budgets could still shift. Residents can sign up for project updates on the Pasco County Fire Rescue website or follow the department’s social media channels for notices as new stations come online.
