What started as a simple welfare check on a stalled car in Pleasant Prairie early Saturday turned into a rolling hazard across town, ending only when officers used a slow-speed pin maneuver to trap the driver against a curb and haul him into custody. Inside the car, police say they also found a malnourished animal, which was rushed to the Wisconsin Humane Society's Kenosha campus for care.
How the Chase Began
According to a post by the Pleasant Prairie Police Department, officers initially stopped to check on what appeared to be a disabled motorist on Highway 50. Instead of accepting help, the driver took off, repeatedly veering into oncoming lanes on Green Bay Road and turning a roadside assist into a full-blown pursuit.
Police tried to shut it down early. The department said officers deployed a tire-deflation device and attempted a moving roadblock, but the suspect slipped past both efforts and barreled into an active construction zone, putting workers and other drivers at risk. FOX6 News Milwaukee reported that the department shared those details on its Facebook page.
Why Officers Ended the High-Speed Pursuit
The department said it called off the high-speed portion of the chase when it became clear the situation posed an imminent danger to construction crews, passing motorists and the officers themselves. Later, with the vehicle moving more slowly, officers used a controlled tactic to pin the car against a curb and safely disable it.
Reporting by WFRV Local 5 noted that during one attempted roadblock, the suspect allegedly swerved toward a squad car before officers boxed the vehicle in. That final maneuver stopped the car without any reported injuries to bystanders.
Animal Rescued and Suspect Booked
Once the vehicle was secured, officers found a malnourished animal in poor health inside and transported it to the Wisconsin Humane Society - Kenosha Campus for treatment. The suspect was booked into the Kenosha County Jail on multiple felony and misdemeanor charges, according to FOX6 News Milwaukee and the department's post. Authorities had not released the suspect's name or a complete list of charges at the time of the reports.
Pleasant Prairie police say the investigation is ongoing and that any new information will be posted on the department's official social media channels. Officials have not released further details on the animal's condition beyond confirming it was in poor health when recovered from the vehicle.
