
A pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle just before 5 a.m. Wednesday on Watt Avenue near the intersection with Arden Way in Sacramento's Arden Arcade neighborhood. The driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators, and authorities have not released the victim's name or any other identifying details.
According to CBS Sacramento, the California Highway Patrol confirmed the fatality but said the circumstances leading up to the collision were still unclear. First responders closed lanes while crews processed the scene early Wednesday, the outlet reported.
Where the crash happened
The collision occurred along a busy commercial stretch near Arden Fair Mall, where Watt Avenue funnels traffic from I-80 through Arden Arcade. Sacramento County's Department of Transportation has been working on South Watt Avenue capacity and safety upgrades, including added lanes and new sidewalks, according to Sacramento County.
