Early Friday morning, parts of the Las Vegas Valley snapped awake to flickering lights, stalled coffee makers and blocks suddenly gone dark, as scattered power outages hit neighborhoods from the east side to the southwest.

Residents reported brief interruptions and full-on blackouts while NV Energy crews scrambled before sunrise to track down what went wrong at multiple trouble spots across the valley.

NV Energy Probes Dozens of Overnight Outages

NV Energy is investigating a string of outages across the valley. According to FOX5, the utility said the incidents ranged from a single customer to more than 2,000 affected, and as of 5:45 a.m., a total of 2,624 customers were in the dark.

The company told reporters the largest outage in zip code 89102 was tied to a windstorm. Other problems were blamed on “pole-mounted equipment failures” and a “transformer malfunction,” while many of the smaller outages were still listed as under investigation.

Wind Advisory Makes Repairs Tricky

Fixing the mess is not exactly easy in Friday’s weather. Clark County sat under a Wind Advisory that the National Weather Service said would remain in effect through the afternoon, with gusts expected to push into the 30s and 40s mph.

Those kinds of gusts can knock around overhead equipment and make it tougher, and slower, for crews working in bucket trucks to replace or repair poles and transformers. The advisory also adds extra risk for drivers on exposed stretches of road while workers operate near live lines.

When Power Might Be Back

Many of the outages were first logged between about 1:30 a.m. and 3 a.m. Early status updates from NV Energy showed some pockets with estimated restoration windows between roughly 6:30 a.m. and 7:45 a.m., per FOX5.

Crews were dispatched overnight to isolate the problem spots and swap out damaged hardware. Officials warned that those restoration times are estimates and can change quickly if wind or access issues slow down repairs.

How to Check Status and Stay Safe

If your lights are out, treat any downed or sparking lines as live and call 911 if there is immediate danger. Report outages directly to NV Energy and sign up for alerts through the company’s outage tools.

Keep refrigerators and freezers closed to preserve food, unplug sensitive electronics to protect them from potential surges, and stick with battery-powered lighting instead of candles for short-term use. Check the NV Energy outage map for locations and estimated restoration times.

Wind Trouble Is Becoming a Bad Habit

This is not the first recent wind-driven headache for the region. A late-March incident in Henderson that left thousands in the dark was blamed on a mylar balloon hitting equipment, a textbook example of how a single airborne object or a failing piece of gear can trigger a much larger problem.

Hoodline covered the March 29 Henderson outage, underscoring the recurring vulnerability of above-ground equipment to spring storms. NV Energy has promoted grid-hardening plans in recent months, but residents say fast, reliable restoration remains a persistent concern.

FOX5 reported it had reached out to NV Energy for more details as crews continued repairs into Friday morning. Residents are being urged to keep an eye on local weather alerts and the utility’s status page for updates through the afternoon.
