Pendo, the Raleigh-born product software company that helped put downtown’s tech scene on the map, is cutting about 90 positions worldwide, roughly 10% of its global workforce, as part of a company-wide reorganization. Company leaders said around 30 of those roles are based at Pendo’s downtown Raleigh offices.

In a statement to Axios, Pendo CEO Todd Olson said the move is not a verdict on the strength of the business, but part of a broader reset of how the company is structured. Olson said Pendo has been in a process of “refounding” itself over the past six months as the technology landscape has shifted rapidly.

What Pendo Does and Who It Serves

Pendo builds product analytics and in-app guidance tools that companies use to track customer behavior and steer product decisions. According to Pendo, its customer list includes major names like Morgan Stanley, United Airlines and Salesforce. Forbes has previously reported that Pendo reached an approximate $2.6 billion valuation in earlier funding rounds.

Layoffs Fit Into a Wider AI-Driven Trend

Pendo’s cuts land in the middle of a broader tech shakeup, as companies across the industry rework headcount and pour more money into AI and automation. Outplacement firm Challenger, Gray & Christmas reported that the tech sector accounted for more than 52,000 U.S. job cuts in the first quarter of 2026, with AI frequently cited as a leading reason for the reductions.

Pendo also trimmed staff in 2023, cutting around 12% of its workforce that year as the company tightened up during a choppy market, according to prior reporting from Axios.

What This Means for Raleigh

Pendo has been one of the Triangle’s most visible tech employers, with a prominent downtown footprint and earlier expansion plans that linked the company to Raleigh’s broader redevelopment efforts. Local economic development materials highlight Pendo’s role in downtown employment and its past growth commitments, underscoring how cuts at a single high-profile startup can ripple across the local tech ecosystem.
