According to Charlotte Fire Dept, Engine 35 arrived to find smoke showing and took command of the incident while additional crews moved in behind them. In all, about 30 firefighters from multiple units worked the scene and brought the blaze under control. The department reported no injuries and said the Charlotte Fire Investigation Task Force will handle the origin-and-cause investigation.
Scene and neighborhood
Kilmarsh Court is a residential cul-de-sac of single-family houses, according to Redfin. Listings for homes on the street describe two-story family houses, which lines up with the department's description that the call involved a house fire. Officials did not provide an estimate of damage or say whether any occupants were displaced in the initial update.
Investigation and next steps
The Charlotte Fire Investigation Task Force will lead the probe, per City of Charlotte. The multi-agency unit includes Charlotte Fire Department investigators along with members of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. The task force typically conducts on-scene examinations and evidence collection before issuing a cause determination. Officials have not released a timetable for when their findings will be made public.
