Two Salisbury men are behind bars after police say they played a role in the death of an unhoused man whose body was discovered in a wooded spot off South Shaver Street in January. Detectives have charged 45-year-old Brandis Teon Imes and 43-year-old Marcus Turner with concealment of an unnatural death and disturbing human remains, and both are being held at the Rowan County Detention Center. The victim has been identified as 54-year-old Landis Darnell Glaspy, who was found in a wooded area near South Shaver Street and East Horah Street on Jan. 22. Salisbury police have classified the case as a homicide, and investigators say the probe is still very much alive.
Suspects charged
Investigators filed charges against Imes and Turner this week after reviewing evidence tied to the January discovery, according to WBTV. The station reported that police have not yet released Glaspy's cause of death and that both men were taken into custody and booked into the county jail.
Discovery and early inquiry
On Jan. 22, officers found Glaspy's body in a wooded lot near a home at South Shaver and East Horah streets. Reporting noted that he had been unhoused and living in the area for several months, per WSOC. The January homicide investigation covered the initial response from Salisbury police earlier this year.
Investigation underway
Police told reporters that detectives are still gathering evidence and consulting with the Rowan County district attorney's office, and that additional charges could be filed as the case develops, according to WCNC. Authorities have not released further information about Glaspy's cause of death or a timeline for potential new filings, saying only that the homicide investigation remains active.
What the charges mean
North Carolina law addresses "concealment of death" and related conduct under N.C. Gen. Stat. § 14-401.22, where concealment of death is designated as a Class I felony, according to the state code. That classification means prosecutors would be pursuing felony-level charges if the case moves forward to indictment and trial, as outlined on the legislature's website.
How to report tips
Anyone with information about Glaspy's death is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-866-639-5245 or Lt. Casper at 704-638-5211, per reporting by WCNC. Salisbury police say the investigation is ongoing and are urging any witnesses or community members with details to come forward.
