What started as a routine parking ticket at Sanford City Hall on Tuesday turned into a scare that code enforcement officers say they will not soon forget. According to an arrest report, 24-year-old Cecilia Viloria allegedly drove her car toward several officers in the parking lot after being cited, leaving staff rattled but physically unharmed. She was later arrested and now faces felony assault charges.
Arrest, Charges and the Ticket
An arrest report states that Viloria is charged with three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and is being held in jail on a $15,000 bond. Investigators say the confrontation began after officers cited her for parking in the City Hall lot while she was scheduled for traffic court. Altamonte Springs police also told investigators she had earlier been cited for allegedly driving 92 mph on I-4. Those details were reported by WESH.
Officers Describe a Close Call
Julio Medina, a Sanford code enforcement officer, told WESH that he and his coworkers had only seconds to react when the vehicle suddenly veered in their direction. "She could have lost control. She could have definitely hit any one of us in the parking lot," Medina said. No one was hurt, but officers briefly stepped back from parking enforcement duties after the incident.
Where It Happened
The confrontation played out in the City Hall parking lot at 300 N Park Ave in Sanford. The city’s municipal website lists that address as City Hall, a regular patrol area for code enforcement and a common spot for issuing parking citations. For location details, see the City of Sanford.
Legal Implications
Florida law allows an aggravated assault charge when an assault is committed with a deadly weapon without intent to kill, language taken directly from state statute. Another provision in state law specifically addresses assault or battery on code inspectors, which can influence how prosecutors charge the case and what penalties might apply. The statutes are available from the Florida Legislature.
What Comes Next
Viloria remains in custody, and court records do not yet list an arraignment date. Sanford police and city officials have not released additional details as the investigation continues.
