What started as a spring evening at Myrtle Point Park in California, Maryland turned tense on April 1, when reports of gunfire sent deputies racing to the waterfront. By the next day, a second suspect was in custody. Authorities say no one was hurt, but the incident briefly shut down one of St. Mary’s County’s go-to outdoor spots and left locals rattled.
Deputies had already arrested a 17-year-old at the park on the night of the shooting. On April 2, investigators tracked down an additional suspect, 18-year-old Armonie Josiah Jordan, after detectives said further investigation pointed to him as another person involved. The park was temporarily closed while the scene was processed, and officials emphasized that there were no reported injuries.
Arrests and Charges
Jordan is facing a list of weapons-related charges, which include illegal possession of a regulated firearm, carrying a handgun on his person, carrying a loaded handgun, illegal possession of ammunition and reckless endangerment, according to WBFF. He is being held at the St. Mary's County Detention and Rehabilitation Center while he waits for a bond hearing. Detectives said they secured a warrant for his arrest after reviewing evidence gathered in the hours after the incident.
Deputies' Response at the Park
According to WJLA, deputies were dispatched around 6:53 p.m. after a flurry of 911 calls reported shots fired at the park. When they arrived, they detained several people in the area as they tried to sort out who was involved. Investigators say they found a 17-year-old at the scene with a Glock 23 .40-caliber handgun, and that teen was taken into custody and is being charged as an adult. No injuries were reported in the incident, according to WJLA.
Park Closed While Detectives Work
Myrtle Point Park, a popular St. Mary’s County waterfront with a beach and picnic areas, was shut down for a time so deputies could comb through the grounds and collect evidence, WBFF reports. The closure hit on a busy spring evening and quickly drew attention from nearby residents who were left wondering what exactly unfolded along the water. The sheriff’s office has asked anyone who saw or heard anything to contact investigators directly or to share tips anonymously.
Legal Note
The case now moves into a more complicated legal phase. The 17-year-old is being charged as an adult, but prosecutors will ultimately decide how aggressively to pursue adult-level counts, given the mix of alleged conduct and firearm charges. Jordan, the 18-year-old suspect, faces felony-level weapons offenses under state law. Those potential outcomes were outlined in the sheriff’s summary of the case reported by WJLA. Officials say the investigation is still active and that more details will be released as the case moves forward.
