A Thursday night ShotSpotter alert sent officers racing to East Baltimore, where a double shooting left a 29-year-old man in critical condition and a 35-year-old woman with a graze wound, according to authorities.
Police said the alert came from the area of the 2000 block of E. Hoffman Street. Both victims later turned up at a nearby hospital for treatment.
Police response and victims
Patrol units were dispatched around 8:27 p.m. on April 2 after the ShotSpotter system flagged gunfire on the 2000 block of E. Hoffman Street, and officers later located the injured man and woman at an area hospital, Fox45 reports.
According to the station, the 29-year-old man had been shot multiple times and was listed in critical condition, while the 35-year-old woman was treated for a graze wound.

What ShotSpotter can provide
Baltimore's ShotSpotter policy instructs officers to "Respond to the Dot," noting that the on-screen dot can be more accurate than the listed street address. The policy tells officers to treat alerts as priority calls and to canvass the immediate area for witnesses and any evidence, according to the department's policy document.
The policy also notes that ShotSpotter can provide embedded audio and detailed reports that detectives may request to help in an investigation.
Neighborhood context
East Baltimore has seen several high-profile shootings in recent years. In 2024, a mass shooting in the Oliver neighborhood left one person dead and several others wounded, a case that continues to echo through local courts and community conversations. The Baltimore Banner has covered that incident and its aftermath.
As of Friday morning, police had not released any suspect description or additional details. Detectives say the investigation is active and are urging anyone with relevant information to come forward.
