According to DC News Now, Metropolitan Police Department officers responded shortly before 7:45 p.m. on April 3 to reports of a pedestrian struck on I-295 northbound at South Capitol Street SE. The outlet reports the victim was found unconscious and later pronounced dead at the scene, and that detectives have opened an investigation into what led up to the collision.
Traffic impact and timeline
WTOP reported that calls about the pedestrian came in around 7:55 p.m., and that by about 8:45 p.m. all northbound lanes at the Suitland Parkway exit were shut down. The closures caused significant delays that stretched late into the night. Officials have not yet released the victim’s name as the investigation continues.
