Seattle Glow, the free summer spectacle that turns tethered hot‑air balloons into towering lanterns under the Space Needle, is set to light up Seattle Center again on Sunday, June 21, 2026. The evening features a dusk DJ set and a coordinated burner‑lit display that typically kicks off around 9 p.m. Organizers say last year’s turnout was massive, so expect serious crowds and plan to arrive early.
When and where
DJ music is scheduled to start at 8:00 p.m., easing the crowd into sunset before the main attraction. Balloon inflation and the glow are slated to begin around 9:00 p.m., with the burner‑lit display running for about an hour on the lawn around Fisher Pavilion, according to Seattle Glow.
Who’s behind it
Seattle Ballooning is producing the glow in partnership with Seattle Center, with this year’s presentation supported by Muckleshoot Casino. The event is free to the public, with no tickets or reservations required, as reported by Secret Seattle. In other words, you only have to pay in patience and sensible footwear.
How it started
The downtown glow made its debut in June 2025, when six 100‑foot balloons lit up the International Fountain lawn. Organizers billed it as the first balloon glow staged in the heart of the city, and it did not exactly fly under the radar. Seattle Center previewed the inaugural event and its schedule in a campus post, as noted by Seattle Center.
Practical tips
Pilots keep the balloons tethered, so they do not launch, no matter how tempting the views might look. For safety reasons, the organizers also prohibit personal drones. Food and restrooms will be available in the Armory, and Seattle Ballooning recommends following its channels for last‑minute updates and weather notices, according to Seattle Ballooning.
Plan ahead
With more than 15,000 people at last year’s glow, organizers advise arriving by about 7:30 p.m., using public transit when possible, and bringing layers for those cool Seattle summer evenings. The show is weather‑dependent, so check the official site or Seattle Ballooning’s social pages before heading to Fisher Pavilion, per Seattle Glow.
