A stolen car ripping down the Las Vegas Strip on Tuesday afternoon turned a busy stretch of resort corridor into a short, chaotic crime scene before the driver finally crashed and tried to bolt on foot, police said.

Officers ultimately chased down and arrested the suspect, who was taken to a nearby hospital as a precaution. No other injuries were reported.

Metro officers first spotted the reported stolen vehicle at about 1:42 p.m. near Flamingo Road and Via Del Nord Street, just off the Bellagio, and tried to pull it over. Instead, the driver hit the gas.

"Officers attempted to stop the vehicle, and it fled at a high rate of speed," according to KTNV, which first reported the incident.

How the chase ended

The pursuit ended roughly a mile away near Las Vegas Boulevard and Reno Avenue when the stolen car slammed into two other vehicles, according to Metro.

After the impact, the driver bailed out and ran, but officers caught up after a brief foot chase and took the suspect into custody. The driver was taken to an area hospital as a precaution, and no other injuries were reported. LVMPD officials said the case remains an active investigation.

More pursuits across the valley

The Strip incident is the latest in a run of short but hazardous pursuits that have ended with crumpled cars across the valley in recent weeks. Earlier this month, a stolen-vehicle chase in the northwest valley left four people in the hospital after a collision, according to FOX5 Las Vegas.

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said its investigation into Tuesday’s pursuit is ongoing and has not released the suspect’s name or any potential charges. LVMPD said investigators continue to work the case.
