A brief police pursuit on San Antonio’s far southeast side ended in a crash Thursday near the 6000 block of Foster Trail Drive, after officers say a stolen vehicle plowed into another car and the driver tried to bolt on foot before being arrested. The person in the other vehicle was hurt when the suspect reversed into their car, but authorities describe the injuries as non-life-threatening. The San Antonio Police Department says the investigation is ongoing and detectives were still processing the scene.
Crash Near Foster Trail Drive
According to KENS 5, SAPD officers tailed the vehicle after it was reported stolen and continued the pursuit until it crashed near the 6000 block of Foster Trail Drive. Police say the driver then threw the car into reverse, hitting another vehicle before ditching the stolen ride and running off on foot. The other driver was treated at the scene for injuries that were not considered life-threatening. Officers caught up with the fleeing suspect a short time later and took the driver into custody.
Pursuit Policy And Local Context
City records show that SAPD policy allows officers to pursue stolen vehicles under certain conditions, according to the City of San Antonio Public Safety Committee minutes. That document also highlights anti-theft campaigns and new tracking tools that city officials credit with helping push vehicle theft numbers down. Even with those efforts, high-speed pursuits remain a recurring safety concern, and the Express-News has detailed other chases this year that ended in crashes.
Investigation And Aftermath
As of Thursday, SAPD had not released the suspect’s name or any charges while detectives continued to process the scene. Hoodline previously tracked a similar pursuit in February, a wild East Side Tesla crash that underscored how brief chases have been popping up across the city this year. Investigators remained on scene and the probe is ongoing, according to KENS 5.
Anyone who witnessed the crash or has video is asked to contact investigators, and SAPD has not yet announced any charges. This story will be updated as police release additional information.
