The Strokes are finally headed back to Metro Detroit. The New York band is set to headline Pine Knob Music Theatre in Clarkston on June 15, marking their first local headlining show in about 20 years. The date drops right in the middle of a packed summer run built around festivals and new music from the group.
Tickets, Openers and the Date
Promoters have confirmed the Pine Knob stop for June 15, with Hamilton Leithauser on the bill as an opener and Thundercat listed as additional support, according to The Detroit News. Tickets are scheduled to go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday via Ticketmaster, the outlet reports. Promoters have not yet posted final pricing or VIP package details publicly, so fans will have to watch the listings closely.
New Album and Coachella Momentum
The tour is built around Reality Awaits, the band’s seventh studio album, due June 26. The Strokes released the single “Going Shopping” last week, per NME. They also hit the Coachella stage over the weekend, with headliner sets streaming on YouTube and giving the new material a wider audience, as noted by Radio X. All of that has only added fuel to the anticipation around the Pine Knob date.
Why Detroit Fans Care
For many local fans, this show has been a long time coming. The last time The Strokes headlined the area was an April 2006 gig at the State Theatre in Detroit, documented on setlist.fm. They did swing back through in 2022 as an opener for the Red Hot Chili Peppers at Comerica Park, a date also logged on setlist.fm. That long stretch without a proper headlining slot goes a long way toward explaining why the Clarkston show is already buzzing among long-time listeners.
About Pine Knob and What to Expect
Pine Knob Music Theatre is a long-running outdoor amphitheater in Clarkston that recently reclaimed its classic name and hosts much of metro Detroit’s summertime concert season, per the venue’s history page. Fans should be ready for a full outdoor amphitheater experience: plan to arrive early, expect parking lines and a choice between reserved seats and lawn, and check the venue’s box office and accessibility pages in advance so there are no surprises on show night.
