A late-morning house fire in Sylmar sent one person to the hospital on Tuesday and brought a fast response from Los Angeles firefighters to a one-story home just off the 5 Freeway.
Crews reached the residence on West Aztec Street, near the freeway, and needed about 35 minutes to knock down the flames before remaining on scene for overhaul and mop-up, according to MyNewsLA.
The Los Angeles Fire Department said in an alert on X that the blaze broke out at 14856 W Aztec St and listed Fire Station 75 among the companies dispatched to the scene. The call came in at about 11:20 a.m., and the fire was declared out at 11:55 a.m., LAFD spokesman Jamie Stewart told MyNewsLA, with one person taken to a hospital.
Blaze Knocked Down, Everyone Accounted For
When firefighters arrived, they reported smoke showing and quickly confirmed that all occupants had evacuated the home, Stewart told MyNewsLA. Crews then focused on overhaul and mop-up after the knockdown.
Officials transported one person to a hospital for an unspecified ailment, and authorities had not released that person's condition as of Tuesday afternoon.
Why It Matters For Sylmar
The call landed in the middle of what has already been a busy April for LAFD, with the department reporting an uptick in structure fires this month and urging residents to test smoke alarms and use extra caution with home repairs, as detailed in an April fire flare-up report. In Sylmar, where many homes are older single-story structures and sit close to major freeways, fast responses can make a big difference in keeping injuries and damage in check.
Investigation And Safety Notes
The department's alert did not list a cause for the fire and said investigators would examine the scene, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department. Officials again reminded Angelenos to make sure they have working smoke detectors and a clear escape plan for everyone in the household.
LAFD has not released additional details. This story will be updated if more information becomes available. Neighbors with security video or other tips are encouraged to contact the department's public information office or local news outlets.
