One man is now facing a murder charge, while the other is charged as an accessory after the fact.
Late-Night Calls To The Scene
Deputies were dispatched shortly before 11 p.m. to a residence on Fairmont Court after callers reported a civil disturbance, according to WSOC. A neighbor later told dispatchers they heard yelling followed by gunshots. When deputies arrived, they found a victim outside the home, provided aid at the scene and then learned the person had been pronounced dead.
Search, Traffic Stop And Arrests
Investigators say two men left the Fairmont Court home in a white Nissan Altima. Iredell County deputies later spotted the car on Hickory Highway in Statesville and arrested both men, according to WCCB Charlotte. The Alexander County Sheriff’s Office reports the suspects were brought back to Alexander County and booked into the county detention center.
Who Was Charged
Local records and reporting identify the suspects as 21-year-old Jeremiah Hernandez Freeland of Statesville, who is charged with murder, and 19-year-old Jacob Brooks Perkins, who is charged with accessory after the fact and listed as homeless. Both men are being held without bond at the Alexander County Detention Center, WBTV reports.
What Comes Next In The Case
Family members asked investigators not to release the victim’s name while the case is still unfolding, and local reporting says first appearances in district court are scheduled for Monday, according to WSOC. The sheriff’s office says the investigation remains active and is asking anyone with information to contact deputies.
