Baltimore police are searching for 56-year-old Brian Meyers after, authorities say, he simply walked out of a hospital room Friday night, got into a vehicle, and took off.
Officers were called to the hospital around 7:28 p.m., according to police. Investigators say Meyers had been in custody earlier in the day, and detectives are now trying to figure out how a man under guard managed to leave the facility and drive away. Police say a new arrest warrant has been issued.
As reported by FOX45, hospital staff told officers that Meyers left his room and got into a vehicle around that same time. Investigators told the station it remains unclear how he got out in the first place.
How to help
Baltimore Police are asking anyone who sees Meyers or recognizes the vehicle involved to call 911 immediately. Tips can also be submitted anonymously to Metro Crime Stoppers at 1-866-7LOCKUP or through the group's online tip form.
Background and legal notes
Police say Meyers was in custody after he was found in possession of a firearm following a car crash. According to authorities, he is prohibited from possessing a firearm because of a prior conviction, and another warrant is being issued for his arrest, per WBFF/FOX45.
Under federal law, it is a crime for convicted felons to possess firearms (18 U.S.C. § 922), and Maryland's Public Safety code similarly bars people convicted of disqualifying offenses from possessing regulated firearms (Maryland Code, Pub. Safety §5-133).
Police say the search is ongoing and that additional details will be released as they become available. Anyone with immediate information is urged to call 911 or submit an anonymous tip to Metro Crime Stoppers.
