After a gray start to Thursday, May 28, Pittsburgh is finally on track to shake off the clouds. Skies should start to clear by mid to late morning, letting sunshine bump afternoon temperatures into the mid 70s. It will turn breezy but stay comfortable, with northwest winds picking up to around 3 to 14 mph and an overnight low landing near 50F.
Sunny Afternoons, Cool Nights
Once the low cloud deck thins out late this morning, visibility improves in time for the afternoon commute, and the city slides into a much brighter stretch. Northwest winds will be 3 to 14 mph with gusts into the teens, breezy but not blustery. According to the National Weather Service, highs will top out near 75F before most neighborhoods slip back into the low 50s overnight.
Earlier Rain, Settled Conditions
All of this comes on the heels of heavy rain and a Flood Watch last Saturday, when things were much less calm around the region. Today, though, looks pleasantly dry. Hoodline covered that soggy stretch in more detail in a recent story; check out the recap of the flood watch, raw rain and rowdy winds for a reminder of how loud the weather got.
What This Means For Plans
For now, it is a solid day to tackle outdoor plans and errands, with no watches or warnings in effect for the city. The National Weather Service discussion notes that the larger ridge may weaken early next week, bringing a chance for isolated afternoon showers or storms Monday through Wednesday. If you have outdoor events lined up, then it is worth having a quick backup plan in your back pocket.
