Abbeville, Louisiana-based Acadian Contractors is planting a flag on the Space Coast, scooping up industrial property in Cocoa and planning roughly 100 new jobs at a new East Coast hub. The company says the site will tackle heavy fabrication and aquatic projects tied to rocket-stage recovery as launches accelerate along Florida’s Atlantic shoreline, signaling a sizable bet on Brevard County’s launch-support economy and local manufacturing scene.
According to CoStar, Acadian paid about $6.9 million for a two-property industrial portfolio in Cocoa that includes buildings at 1060 Cox Road and 4135 Pine Tree Place. The properties total roughly 42,378 square feet across about 8.29 acres, and CoStar’s listing notes the local brokers who handled the deal.
As reported by Orlando Business Journal, Acadian plans to staff the Cocoa hub with about 100 workers while shifting part of its operations toward aquatic infrastructure that will support rocket recovery. The outlet notes that the hires are expected to focus on fabrication, coatings, and marine work tied to rising Space Coast launch activity, with company leaders casting the move as a key piece of their broader East Coast growth strategy.
Acadian Contractors, headquartered in Abbeville, Louisiana, has expanded its fabrication and coatings business over several decades, according to the company. The Acadian Contractors website now lists a Cocoa office and outlines the firm’s fabrication capabilities. Recent job postings and updates on the company’s LinkedIn page show active recruiting for roles in Cocoa, suggesting the hiring push is already underway.
Why the Space Coast Matters
Federal and commercial players are increasingly eyeing sea-based concepts to recover rocket stages, a shift that could open a fresh market for firms able to modify offshore platforms and install aquatic infrastructure. The U.S. Air Force has publicly discussed converting decommissioned oil rigs and other marine structures into rocket recovery platforms in recent solicitations, a move that industry observers say is drawing more contractors into coastal fabrication work. Defense News has detailed the solicitation and the potential ripple effects for the market.
Local Pipeline and Next Steps
Acadian has already surfaced in Port Canaveral selection documents for service contracts, a signal that the firm is stitching together local relationships that could help feed work into its Cocoa operation. Port Canaveral vendor records list Acadian among selected contractors for specific scopes of work. If the company hits its hiring target, the roughly 100 jobs would add depth to the Space Coast’s fabrication workforce and further tighten the link between the region’s launch activity and its homegrown industrial base.
