Authorities say an Annapolis man was arrested after he pointed a handgun at a minor during a neighborhood confrontation earlier this month, all sparked by kids climbing on an abandoned reclining chair.
The incident occurred near Spa Drive and Silopanna Road on May 2, when Michael Julius Wolyn’s child and two other children were reportedly playing on a discarded chair. Officers later went to Wolyn’s home, took him into custody, and recovered several firearms from the residence, according to police.
Police Account and Arrest
According to CBS Baltimore, one of the minors ran home and told a parent what happened. That parent, who told officers they recognized Wolyn from earlier interactions, reportedly identified him to police.
Charging documents reviewed by the outlet say Wolyn approached the children with a handgun and pointed it at one of them, prompting the child to take off. Officers later arrested Wolyn at his Annapolis residence; he told police he had a handgun permit.
Court Filing Lists Charges
Per the Maryland Courts, court records show an on-view arrest filed May 3 for Michael Julius Wolyn, listing counts that include firearm use in the commission of a felony or violent crime, first- and second-degree assault, and reckless endangerment.
The report lists a defendant's address at 20 Silopanna Road, Apt. 4, in Annapolis. The case was entered into the docket during the May 3 reporting period and is set to move through the local court system.
Weapons Recovered and City Data
Police say Wolyn voluntarily handed over firearms that were stored in a safe in a bedroom, and investigators recovered several guns from the home, authorities told CBS Baltimore.
City crime data linked on the Annapolis Police Department’s public pages shows officers have seized 12 firearms so far this year. Authorities have not indicated whether any of the weapons taken from Wolyn’s home are tied to other cases.
